Day 1 (Austin): Salt Lick

Dinner at the Salt Lick, approximately 20 miles out of downtown.  The restaurant was featured on Man vs. Food.

It's a bit difficult to find.  We ended up at an abandoned ranch a bit up the road from the correct place.  Had to double back twice.  But getting here was definitely worth the effort.  The smells from the parking lot are amazing -- charcoal and heavy spice.  The eat-in wait is about 2 hours.  The take-out line is only about 20 minutes to place an order.  Best meat dishes ever.  Great BBQ sauce as well.

Off to 6th Street tonight.

Day 1 (Austin): Driving like the Quad City DJs

What better car to rock out in than the back of my Texas Impala?  Later, we'll compare before and after photos of the car's condition.

First stop: WalMart for a pallet of water, snacks and bug spray.  Sadly, the prices really are amazing.

Second stop: Fran's Hamburgers.  Que delicioso.  Burgers dripping in grease.

Now off to the Radisson Hotel to check-in.

Day 1 (Austin): Just landed in Texas

It's Day 1 of an 11 day roadtrip through Eastern Texas and Louisiana.  Had a great egg and burger sandwich at Five Guys Dulles Airport, and a smooth flight.  Currently am waiting in Austin Airport for the guys arriving on JetBlue.  We're grabbing our rental car and heading into the city.  Let's see how good PriceLine.com has done for us.  Yeehaw, Texas.
